an invitation for a cross cultural experience at Ndanifor Permaculture Ecovillage

Get ready for an exciting building season in Bafut starting December 2014. Ndanifor Permaculture Ecovillage will be working with local builders, craftspeople and community to construct the meeting hall for the Learning Center. Meeting Hall and kitchen

A small team of international natural building interns will work with Elke Cole and the Bafut builders to create a beautiful hall from local materials. Builders who have some training/experience from the natural building movement are invited to apply for this unique program.

The design of the building includes earthen walls, – plasters and flooring. Raffia ‘bamboo’, a common and plentiful local material, can be used in roof structures, furniture, ceiling panels and other applications. making a ladder from Raffia

We intend to bring together experience from traditional craftsmen in Bafut and new methods of the natural building movement.

Natural builders worldwide focus on the relationship between building and site. This shows in the use of local materials, renewable energies and incorporating water management into the design.

The outcome of such collaboration will demonstrate a sustainable way for our region.earthen plaster application In their free time, participating Interns will discover the rich culture of Bafut, see the beauty of natural landscapes in our surrounding areas and spend time in the lively city of Bamenda. Ndanifor Permaculture Ecovillage is a demonstration and education site for Cameroon. Better World’s International summer workcamp takes place on this land each year, and we welcome visitors to the site, who wish to see Permaculture in action. Once the hall is completed we will be offering training to local villagers, youth and women’s groups as well as larger cross-cultural events.
