From Ubuntu to Kapwa Project

Building cultural transformation in the Global South through conscious food and mutually healing human relationships, with support from the Conscious Food Systems Alliance (CoFSA- UNDP)

The project called From Ubuntu to Kapwa has been launched to promote inner development practice as a pathway to accelerate regenerative agriculture in the holistic quest for peace education programs in conflict-prone communities.

The project is designed to use indigenous solutions in hands-on learning to break the cycle of poverty and improve conscious food outcomes through decentralized management to rejuvenate local indigenous communities

Inspired by the philosophy of oneness through the African and Afro-Colombian “Ubuntu” and Filipino psychology’s “Kapwa,” our goal is to develop a “deep design” from the edges, as a south to south exchange across 3 countries that share food system leadership and values from (historical) colonization, climate, and conflict narratives in Cameroon, Philippines, and Colombia.

On January 12, 2024, we launched and blessed the "From the Ubuntu to Kapwa" project, a conscious food systems action-research by Better World Cameroon, Living Story Landscapes Project, and Reserva Falun, Alianzas para la Abundancia, supported by the Global Ecovillage Network and it’s regions - Global Ecovillage Network -Africa, GEN Oceania & Asia, CASA Latina and Gaia Education.

Cultivating Inner Capacities for Regenerative Food Systems | United Nations Development Programme

From Ubuntu to Kapwa members have pioneered quality and impact in the application of consciousness approaches and practices into food systems through a global portfolio of Interventions, including the delivery of training, coaching, and facilitation services, supported by research and internal learning frameworks. Interventions are coordinated by a Project Team who are co-creating together to develop and implement more pilots and prototypes, with a commitment to share their learnings within the Alliance. The role of the Project Team is to support members to form partnerships, access tools, and expertise, and share lessons learned with the public. CoFSA does not provide funding for the implementation of interventions but plays an advisory role in raising funds for an Incubator to support the design, implementation, and funding of CoFSA Interventions. The UBUNTU to KAPWA Team will submit its findings to the Secretariat in March 2024 to include their orientations in designing more incubators.

From Ubuntu to Kapwa is combining indigenous knowledge and modern technological approaches to nourish people and nature relationships. African, Asian, and Latin American young leaders working in regenerative agriculture with grassroots farmers launched blessing ceremonies in early January 2014, depicting why indigenous knowledge in food consciousness.

Also finding out why indigenous wisdom is important in urban regeneration. Through South-South Dialogues Network, strategic partnerships are building a green bridge between underrepresented groups to link them up to global learning.

Ndanifor Connect & Practice- (1st CoFSA pilot hub in Africa)

Better World Cameroon leading the project showcases The Spirit of Ndanifor (version of Ubuntu of the Bafut Kingdom) bringing together an international community of peers to support one another and journey together towards conscious food from the edges. Members from the Bafut Ecovillage hub have the opportunity to connect with their peers in Asia and Latin America and co-create a community of practice for Sout-North Partnerships.

The CoFSA Secretariat currently hosted by UNDP supports members to draw from each other's experience and invites expertise to collaborate on specific issues and social innovation initiatives through dedicated activities hosted on the ground and shared on a digital community platform.

Konkankoh Consultancy accompanies members in Cameroon and Africa through the Bafut pilot hub using Ndanifor indigenous regenerative principles to provide specialized South-North dynamic services to international organizations interested in deeper ecological research into African indigenous wisdom, mapping and structuring Bafut as minimum CoFSA communication ecosystem hub.
